According to reports from multiple sport outlets on Thursday including Sky SportsMotorsport, and ESPN, Formula 1 racer Lewis Hamilton is expected to move from Mercedes to join Ferrari after the 2024 season. Hamilton signed a multi-year contract extension with Mercedes in August; the German car manufacturer had no comment on the reports, while Ferrari did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The 39-year-old Hamilton made his Formula 1 debut in 2007 with McLaren, earning his first win at the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix. After winning a title and 17 races in six years, he made the move to Mercedes after the 2012 season. Hamilton then won six championships in seven seasons from 2014-20 with Mercedes, tying Michael Schumacher for the most in Formula 1 history; additionally, his 103 total victories are also the most in Formula 1 history.

Hamilton hasn’t won a Formula 1 race since 2021; he finished second in the driver’s standings in 2021, sixth in 2022, and third in the driver’s standings last season with 234 points, behind champion Max Verstappen (575) and his Red Bull Racing teammate, Sergio Perez (285).

The 2024 season will start with the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, taking place March 2 in Bahrain.
