The Columbia County Quorum Court had just one item on the agenda Monday. That was an appropriation ordinance to supplement the jail budget. The security cameras in the jail have quit working, so the ordinance passed and JPs approved $14,190 to replace the camera system. These funds are from unappropriated funds from the original 2017 budget.
Steve Lee is the chairman of the Jail Committee. Earlier he reported that new cameras have been installed in the deputies’ cars; they also now have body cameras. Lee said they have a vendor that is furnishing uniforms for $50 less than they were paying. He said the roof of the detention center has been repaired, but he added that it still has a leak or two in it. They have also done some repairs to two showers and the kitchen.
Margie Blair is chair of the Building Committee; she said they will close on the purchase of the West Side School on Friday. Blair said the Building Committee will meet on the 17th to discuss the future use of the old school. She urged department heads to attend to give their input.
Annette Pate, the Finance chair, said Solid Waste revenue is down due to the decrease in sales tax revenue. Pate said there may have to be an adjustment to the budget for Solid Waste and the Jail.
