The Magnolia Police Department is investigating a shooting in the early morning hours Monday that left one person wounded. The SAU volleyball team is playing for a Great American Conference Tournament championship this afternoon in Hot Springs. The Lady Muleriders beat Arkansas Tech in 4 sets Friday in one of the semifinals. The Golden Suns were the regular-season champions. The championship match begins at 2:00. A man was sentenced to a total of 16 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections Thursday in Columbia County Circuit Court. David Wesson II pleaded true to allegations that he violated his probation. The Magnolia High School basketball teams opened their season Thursday with wins at home against Fordyce. The Lady Panthers won 46 to 31; they got 19 points from Lily Moore. The Panthers won 61 to 41; they were led by Greg Martin with 16 points and Derecus Walker with 14. The Panthers and Lady Panthers play Tuesday at Hamburg.
Four SAU volleyball players earned All-GAC honors this year. Serena LeDuff was named to the first team and Newcomer of the Year.
