MHS & SAU SPORTS UPDATE

The Magnolia Panthers were 66-56 winners in basketball action Thursday at El Dorado High School. Kadyn Roach led the Panthers with 25 points. Tyler Brown scored 18, and Braelyn Beasley had 13 points. The Panthers finished the regular season at 11 and 5 in conference action, 16 and 5 for the season.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Wildcats beat the Lady Panthers 49-19. The Lady Panthers fell to 4 and 12 in conference games, and 5 and 14 overall.

Both Magnolia teams will be playing next week in the 5A South Conference Basketball Tournament at Hot Springs High School. Magnolia’s boys are seeded second and will play Hope at 8:30 p.m. Monday. You can hear that game live on Magnolia’s Country 99.1.

The Lady Panthers are seeded sixth and face De Queen in their first-round game at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

 

The SAU basketball Muleriders defeated Arkansas Tech 90-80 Thursday night in Magnolia. SAU was led by Gabe Gilliam and Aaron Lucas with 18 points apiece. Draylan Perkins scored 16, and DeVante Brooks added 15 points and 9 rebounds. The Muleriders and Wonder Boys are both 9 and 9 in Great American Conference play; they’re tied for sixth place.

Arkansas Tech came out on top in the ladies’ game Thursday; they beat SAU 87-62. Sue Key led SAU with 20 points, and Olivia McWilliams added 13. The Lady Muleriders are now tied for eighth place at 7 and 11 in the GAC.

The SAU basketball teams play at Harding Saturday. The ladies tip off at 5:30, followed by the men at about 7:30. You can hear both games live on Magnolia’s Country 99.1.

 

The threat of rain has brought changes in SAU’s baseball and softball schedules this weekend.

The Lady Muleriders were scheduled to play in a classic in Bentonville, but that has been cancelled. So, they will instead play four games in Emporia, Kansas. Games start at 3 and 5 p.m. Saturday, and 11 and 1 Sunday.

SAU’s home baseball series with Southeastern Oklahoma State has been pushed back from a Friday-Saturday series to Sunday-Monday. The first game is now scheduled for 5 p.m. Sunday, and a doubleheader at noon Monday.
